CULTURE IN ORGANIZATIONS

First we have to define what is culture.
Culture consists of all the ideas, objects, and ways of doing things created by the group. Culture includes arts, beliefs, customs, inventions, language, technology and traditions; consists of learned ways of acting, feeling and thinking, rather than biologically determined .
In organizations:
“Culture is a pattern of beliefs and expectations shared by the organization" members. These beliefs and expectations produce norms that shape the behavior of both individuals and groups
within an organization.
Culture is very important in organizations because it's like the way to do things in the company; including value to the people so they will feel important, finding themselves as an important part in the organization making the individual effort a collective one for the entire company, beliefs and norms, all these together will bring and identity to the organization, stability and will separate one organization from another.

SUMMARY OF THE CLASS:
we saw how important is the culture for an organizations with a lot of examples, and also we went to the cafeteria to see peoples behavior and then we share all this in class.

GATTACA AND ORGANIZATIONS

SUMMARY
In the future a regular human wants to travel to the space. Society has categorized Vincent Freeman as less than suitable given his genetic make-up and he has become one of the underclass of humans that are only useful for menial jobs. To move ahead, he replace him self identity to Jerome Morrow, a perfect genetic specimen who is a paraplegic as a result of a fall. With some professional advice, Vincent learns to deceive DNA and urine sample testing. When a colleague is killed he is finally scheduled for a space mission, but a colleague suspects his origins and the police begin an investigation.

DISCRIMINATION IN ORGANIZATIONS
It has become increasingly clear to organizational decision makers that employment discrimination is a serious and expensive problem that needs to be addressed.
We can see in the movie gattaca how discrimination afects Freeman a poor guy that did not born how the other "perfect"ones did, his heart problem would not allow him to travel to the stars, now a days there is NOT a GENETIC discrimination, but DISCRIMINATION does exist! it could be about, cultures, economic situations, gender, nationalities, colors it could be about anything, the difference with the movie is that there is law and regulator entities trying to avoid this kind of problems and trying to integrate all the employees and people inside an organization; including formal and informal structure, organizational culture, leadership, strategy, human resource systems, and organizational climates all this may contribute to or attenuate discrimination. If an employee does not feel comfortable in a organization thanks to discrimination he can sue the organization and this woul be a serious and expensive problem, that with the right control it could be avoided. This is why if we are going to be part of an organization or the owners, we need to know our rights and our obligations and of course the law.
